Ethics in Healthcare Leadership: What Needs to be Done
In order to inspire followers and achieve efficiency in their roles and responsibilities, healthcare leaders must demonstrate ethical leadership. Ethical healthcare leaders develop ethical codes and practices to achieve focused leadership, establish relationships and set examples, encourage management participation, and exhibit democratic behavior and decision-making. Risk-taking, enlisting the aid of others, experimenting, and setting an example is some concepts that healthcare administrators can employ to demonstrate ethical leadership. Healthcare managers must practice ethical leadership practices aggressively by using their actions to influence followers and create favorable conditions to achieve extraordinary results.
Ethical leaders set examples for their followers to ensure their followers act morally. While ethical leadership focuses on setting an example and doing the right thing, employees need the proper motivation to emotionally invest in their work and ethically approach their roles and responsibilities (Bhatti et al. 3). By setting the standard, an ethical leader in healthcare enables followers to engage in appropriate behavior, express genuine concerns and attitudes about their work, and focus on making positive decisions. When a leader or manager exemplifies integrity, compassion, and sincerity, employees focus on performance-based behaviors and achieving moral values (Bhatti et al. 3). A healthcare leader or manager who leads by example demonstrates ethical conduct by outlining crucial steps and behaviors to achieve optimal results.
Additionally, a healthcare ethical leader can outline moral strength by indicating what followers must do through action and behavior. Morally robust leaders cultivate a climate of excellence, service performance, and performance satisfaction (Bhatti et al. 4). Because an ethical leader leads by example, ethical and moral conduct can be imitated to achieve organizational goals.
