 The Assignment You work for Urban Outfitters in the Marketing Department. Your research has shown that Native American designs are quite popular today. You developed “mock-ups” for some new products based on traditional Navajo patterns – included in this case study below. Because you live near the Navajo Reservation, you know how devastating the recent COVID-19 pandemic hit that population. As you put your proposal together, you included a provision that 1% of all profits made on these items go to the Navajo Nation Department of Health. The company’s leadership has asked you to put together a memorandum for company leadership on the ethical implications of this line of products. You are to assess the ethics only – not the legal issues. You may assume that the licensing of the trademark is a separate issue to be handled by the legal department. Your task should focus on the ethics (and potential ethical problems) with your company using the Navajo patterns and culture in your products. The memorandum will be evaluated on content and format using the Ethics and Social Responsibility Rubric and Writing Assessment Rubric from The W. A. Franke College of Business. Below are the requirements for the memorandum: Format: a business memorandum of no more than 1000 words of text, including a concise executive summary. Use visual aids to clarify, simplify, and/or emphasize data or main points, but integrate them within the text rather than as appendices. Memorandum should have a professional appearance, be formatted with page numbers and descriptive headings, and include proper citations of at least three outside sources using APA style. Your memo should be free of grammatical, punctuation, capitalization, spelling, and other Basic English language usage errors. [Refer to the Writing Assessment Rubric.] Content: At minimum, the memorandum should include the following: A. An executive summary, providing an overview of your analysis and recommendation. B. Brief statement of the problem/decision/issue. Give a brief overview of the issue as you understand it. [Ethics and Social Responsibility Rubric (ESR) criterion 1] C. Identification of the alternative strategies that the company could adopt to address the issue. This should be short and to the point. [ESR criteria 2 and 3] D. Identification of the specific facts relevant to the issue identified above. Address the information you have about those factors from the case study and the information you would like to have that is not included in the case. Identification of the key ethical theories you will apply to the facts of this case and why you chose them or what information they will give you. [ESR criterion 2] E. Analysis of the social responsibility and ethical factors identified above (in D). [ESR criterion 2] F. Description of your formal recommendation. [ESR criterion 3]
